Trees and our assortment

Yes. Please contact us or view our current stock list on our website.

We supply a wide range of trees, including avenue trees, ornamental trees, multi-stem trees, specimen trees, shaped trees and climate-resilient trees.

Climate-resilient trees are better adapted to drought, heat and extreme weather conditions. We are happy to advise you on the best species for your project.

A 4x transplanted tree has been transplanted four times during cultivation. This creates a compact, well-developed root system, allowing the tree to establish more successfully after planting.

Trees that tolerate prolonged dry conditions include Gleditsia triacanthos, Quercus cerris, Sophora japonica, Ostrya carpinifolia and Celtis occidentalis. These species develop deep root systems and perform well during hot, dry summers.

For wet or poorly drained soils, suitable species include Alnus glutinosa, Alnus cordata, Taxodium distichum, Salix alba and Ulmus laevis. These trees are commonly planted near waterways, retention areas and locations with high groundwater levels.

Fast-growing trees are ideal when rapid shade or greenery is required. Popular examples include Populus, Salix, Alnus, Paulownia and certain Acer species. Please note that fast-growing trees often require more maintenance than slower-growing species.

Trees with broad, dense crowns provide the most shade. Popular choices include Platanus × hispanica, Tilia cordata, Quercus robur, Acer platanoides and Fagus sylvatica.

Urban trees need to tolerate heat, drought, paved surfaces and air pollution. Frequently selected species include Gleditsia triacanthos, Celtis occidentalis, Sophora japonica and Acer campestre. These are often referred to as climate-resilient trees.

Trees for car parks should tolerate heat, drought and restricted rooting space. Suitable species include Gleditsia triacanthos, Sophora japonica, Carpinus betulus, Acer campestre and Tilia tomentosa. These trees provide shade and help reduce heat around parking areas.

Root ball and bare-root trees are generally planted between October and April. Autumn is often considered the best planting season because trees can establish their roots before the growing season begins.

Root ball trees are usually lifted during the dormant season, from approximately October to April. During this period, the trees are leafless, providing the best conditions for successful transplanting. The exact timing depends on weather conditions and the tree species.

Avenue trees provide shade, improve the living environment and support biodiversity. They also help absorb rainwater and reduce temperatures in urban areas during warm periods.

Looking for the right avenue tree for a street, park, business park or garden? These are some of the most popular avenue trees in the Netherlands: 1. Carpinus betulus 2. Tilia cordata 3. Acer campestre 4. Platanus × hispanica 5. Quercus robur 6. Ginkgo biloba 7. Liquidambar styraciflua 8. Fagus sylvatica 9. Zelkova serrata 10. Celtis occidentalis These species are widely appreciated for their appearance, strong growth and suitability for the Dutch climate.

Delivery and Export

Yes. We supply trees to customers throughout Europe, including tree wholesalers, landscapers, municipalities and green contractors. Thanks to our extensive network of trusted growers, we can efficiently organise both small and large orders and support customers with international deliveries.

Transport is not included as a standard service. In most cases, trees are collected from our nursery. If you would like us to arrange transport, please contact us to discuss the available options.

Delivery time depends on the tree species and size. During the planting season, we can usually prepare orders within 2 to 3 working days. If you require a faster delivery, please contact us—we will do our best to find the most suitable solution.

Large trees are transported using specialised vehicles, typically open trailers or trucks with adapted loading space. Each tree is carefully secured to protect the trunk, crown and root ball during transport, ensuring it arrives at its destination in excellent condition.

Sustainability & Certifications

This certification demonstrates that we operate according to strict standards for environmental responsibility, biodiversity, and sustainable cultivation.

Groenkeur is a Dutch quality mark that stands for quality, professionalism, and reliability within the green industry.

We focus on healthy soils, nature conservation, biodiversity, and future-proof cultivation methods that support a sustainable growing environment.

NAK Tuinbouw is the independent inspection authority for the Dutch horticultural sector. It monitors the quality, health, and traceability of plants and trees. Through regular inspections and controls, NAK Tuinbouw helps prevent the spread of harmful pests and diseases, ensuring that plants can be traded safely within the Netherlands and across Europe.

Tree nurseries are inspected to ensure that trees comply with current plant health regulations. During inspections, NAK Tuinbouw checks for the presence of pests and diseases, the origin of plant material, and the registration of plant batches. These inspections help ensure healthy trees and reliable trade throughout Europe.

A plant passport is an official label or document that accompanies certain plants and trees during trade within the European Union. It contains important information such as the botanical name, origin, and the nursery's registration number. This ensures that every tree can always be traced back to its producer.

Yes. Tree nurseries that trade trees and plants within the European Union must comply with European plant health legislation. As a registered nursery, we are therefore inspected periodically by NAK Tuinbouw. These inspections are an essential part of ensuring plant health and safe trade.

Plant health refers to the condition of trees and plants. Healthy trees are free from harmful pests and diseases that could damage other trees, natural areas, or landscaping projects. Maintaining plant health is essential for creating a sustainable and future-proof environment.

Traceability means that the origin of every tree can always be identified. This makes it possible to know where a tree was grown, which inspections have been carried out, and through which stages it has been traded. It provides confidence for customers and allows any issues to be addressed quickly if necessary.

For many trees and plants traded professionally within the European Union, a plant passport is mandatory. This also applies to a large proportion of the trees we supply to landscapers, municipalities, green contractors, and tree wholesalers. The plant passport provides assurance regarding the origin and plant health of the plant material..

NAK Tuinbouw inspections provide our customers with additional confidence. They can trust that the trees they receive come from a registered nursery, comply with current plant health regulations, and have been carefully inspected. This is particularly important for projects carried out by municipalities, landscapers, and professional green contractors.

The frequency of inspections depends on several factors, including the type of cultivation and the applicable regulations. NAK Tuinbouw carries out regular inspections to ensure that tree nurseries continue to meet the required standards for plant health, registration, and traceability.

At Boomkwekerij Michels Classens, we see quality as a daily responsibility. NAK Tuinbouw inspections support this commitment by helping us supply healthy avenue trees, ornamental trees, and multi-stem trees to customers throughout the Netherlands and Europe. They also contribute to a professional and reliable tree nursery sector.
